Director: Cody Davids
Cody Davids is a Magnolia, TX, local who graduated from Magnolia West High School with the First Class in 2010. He started his career in the arts right here with the Magnolia West Theatre Company. After graduating High School, he left for Lon Morris College (a now extinct Two Year Liberal Arts Jr. College) where he received an Associates of Arts Degree. When those two years were up he transferred over to Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. (AxeEm) to finish his education. After graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Performance and Film Studies he left Nac and moved to Austin, TX, to start his career as a working actor.
During his time as a professional actor, he worked on a number of different projects that ranged from plays with local Theatre Production Companies, commercials, short films, feature films and even one big Hollywood production. Like most working actors/artists, he maintained a day job in between shoots and rehearsals in order to support himself financially. Two years into his career his daughter came into the picture and juggling the commitments of a working actor and a full-time parent became impossible logistically. There just aren't enough hours in the day to dedicate to both. So he changed directions and began working on his teachers certificate. He spent a year working in the oil field while finishing his teaching certificate before landing his first teaching job here at West and the rest is history.
He shares this with you so that you might understand his approach and philosophy to Theatre Arts and specifically the craft of Acting/Performance and how the skills and techniques can help you grow as not only an artist but also as a person. That the expectations, guidelines and practices he teaches can translate outside of the classroom/stage and can be directly applied to any job or career a student decides to enter after graduating from High School.
Passion, Work Ethic, and a Positive Mindset are the philosophies in which Mr. Davids instills in the classroom and all artistic endeavors.
