DRAMAPALOOZA GUIDELINES
PERFORMANCE MATERIAL:
AUDITIONS:
Directors will agree on audition format.
There is very limited money left in the theatre for this year all production elements will need to be things we already have in stock.
TECHNICAL ASSIGNMENTS:
Directors will make the technical assignments with the help of Mr. Doggett
PERFORMANCE MATERIAL:
- Performance material subject matter must be approved by Dr. Campbell and Dr. Garza.
- Production material time limit is 15 minutes.
- Production material can be from published or unpublished plays, musicals, TV/Film or original works.
- Original material written by the director.
- It is highly suggested that directors pick material with small casts. The larger the cast the harder it will be to have everyone at rehearsal.
- It is highly suggested that if you are in a theatre production class that you cast your production from you class providing you with more rehearsal time.
AUDITIONS:
Directors will agree on audition format.
- Monologues – original or something from a script
- Improvisation
- Reading from the script
- Directors are limited to seniors only who have participated in at least one MTC production this year.
- Directors must be eligible by the first progress report after the 3rd nine week grading period.
- Directors may team up in pairs of two or direct solo.
- Directors are responsible for making sure you cast follows all company rules.
- Directors are responsible for creating a program for your production.
- Directors are responsible for creating a poster 11X17 poster for your production. Posters designed in black and white.
- Establish a rehearsal schedule.
- Communicate with your company members by text. Set up a group text so you can talk to everyone at once.
- Directors can act in their own production. It’s not recommended to act and direct in the same production. Young directors should have all their focus on directing. It’s difficult to direct when you’re on stage and can’t see the entire stage from the audience.
- Actors can be in a total of three productions (one major role, two minor roles)
- All actors must be eligible (pass all classes)
- Directors will all cast from the same pool of actors – you will have to equally use older and younger actors. No one director will get to pick all of their first choices – casting will be very much like the NBA or NFL draft.
There is very limited money left in the theatre for this year all production elements will need to be things we already have in stock.
- Because several productions will perform in the same space all scenic elements for each production must be movable.
- Keep simplicity in mind.
- The UIL set will be the base for each production.
- The UIL set can’t be painted or altered in any way.
- Costumes will be pulled from the costume shop or brought from home.
- Sound, if used, is the responsibility of the director.
- Special scenic elements can be built in the shop.
TECHNICAL ASSIGNMENTS:
Directors will make the technical assignments with the help of Mr. Doggett
- Stage Manager
- Lights
- Sound
- Backstage crew
- Make sure you strike and clean up your area as soon as you finish your rehearsal.
- Keep props put away.
